Things They Don't Tell You to Pack for College

If you're off for your freshman year of college or are returning as a sophomore, junior or even senior, I came up with a bunch of things that you might not think to bring with you to school. After living in a very standard room at a large public university, I can definitely say I learned what is important to have with you at school to be comfortable for the year! Check out a bunch of items below - and comment any additional items you recommend too!

I originally picked up one of these at Target not even knowing what it really was, but it turned out to be a lifesaver! Being on the top bunk, it was incredibly helpful to have a little organizer with pockets to keep my phone, charger, ear buds and tissues. (Especially when I got sick and needed to have a ton of cough drops within reach!) And for $8, you seriously can't go wrong!

If you're like me and can't sleep in the heat, having a fan is a must. It also creates awesome white noise if you live on a noisy floor and need something to block out sounds.

My mom thought I was crazy when I told her I needed a mini steamer for my room, but it was so quick and easy to use that I brought it out way more often than I ever thought originally. In under 3 minutes, you can fill up the steamer and have it heated up ready to go. A lot of my clothes (specifically my dresses and tops) would get wrinkly in the laundry or just from sitting in my closet over time, so my roomie and I got a ton of use out of this!

Not only did our storage ottoman save space for seasonal things like mittens and scarves, but it doubled as extra seating too! (So much so that we ended up buying a few more!) If you need a place for things like blankets and hats, etc, this is the way to go.

These days most rooms come with full-length mirrors, but if yours doesn't, you'll be really happy you got one of these! Caroline and I only had one pretty skinny mirror in our room, and while both getting ready, it would have been a lot more helpful having two. Whether you're blow drying your hair, putting on makeup or trying on outfits, having a big mirror is key.

What other items do you recommend bringing?

Take a peek at some of my other dorm posts too :)

  1. I 100% agree with all this! I brought all of this when I went to school last year, and everything was super helpful
