After beginning a new year, I've had this whole mindset change in several different areas of my life, from fitness, to school to friends to blogging. It might be the senioritis in me or the fact that I seem to be having to take on more responsibility as I prepare for college, but I've been really into the idea that negative things are going to come your way and the best thing to do is to accept them and move on. Or as Taylor Swift would put it, "shake it off" :)
Whether it be someone talking behind your back, a teacher who just doesn't seem to like you, or a random account commenting rude things on your Instagram, everyone is forced to deal with negativity from an external force in one way or another. Having a blog makes me especially vulnerable to criticism, something I think I've finally accepted within the past year. There are always going to be people thinking my blog is "weird" or "conceited" but what I've discovered is this: "why should I stop doing what I love because one or two people are hating on it?". If you think about it, for every 100 followers you have on Instagram, there are probably at least 4 people who are going to talk behind your back or gossip about you in some way. Unfortunately, social media makes comparison and judgement so easy and pretty much a daily occurrence for most people. So, why let the 4 people get you down when you have 96 other people believe in you? For me specifically, sharing what I love through carefully written posts, pictures and social media platforms is something I'm so passionate about, and over the years, I've come to accept the occasional negativity and let it instead inspire me to work harder. I think as we get older, we realize that the world isn't a 100% positive place and that people will come along that test who you are and what your goals are. Instead of letting the negativity get you down, "shake it off" and move on. And if you're like me, use it to fuel even more motivation to succeed. You'll be a much happier person in the end!
I challenge you to look at negativity with a new angle starting today - you will be surprised how much better you feel!
Such a great reminder, Caroline! Keep doing you!
