5 Tips to Get Out of Bed in the Morning

Monday mornings are.... challenging. (Sometimes I seriously wonder if there are people who actually want to get out of bed on Mondays.) I've found that going to bed pretty late on weekends makes it really hard to fall asleep on Sunday nights, and even more difficult to get out of bed come my early alarm clock Monday morning. Now that I've started getting more into a routine, I want to try to change some things up so I get to bed earlier and don't have as much trouble getting myself out of bed on school mornings (Monday especially). After doing a little bit of research, I've come up with 5 key tips that I think will definitely help you out!

+ Maintain a routine
Like I mentioned before, I am trying to get myself in more of a routine before bed. Now that tennis is winding down, I can do my homework sooner at night and depending on my work load, can usually get to bed a little earlier. The weekend is the tricky part though - there's nothing worse than sleeping in late Sunday morning and then having to get up early again Monday. Your body responds best to going to sleep and waking up at the same time every day, so try to maintain this as much as possible. That way, you will get used to it and it'll be easier to wake up.

+ Don't let yourself hit snooze
As hard as it is (trust me, I can relate), don't hit snooze on your alarm clock because it will cause you to keep hitting it every day. Even though it can be the worst thing in the world to hear your alarm and know you aren't able to get more sleep, forcing yourself to get up when it rings will get you in a good habit of not falling back asleep and having less time to get ready.

+ Wake up to natural light
Studies have shown that people have an easier time waking up to natural sunlight because it's part of our natural sleep-wake cycle. I mean it makes sense, right? Leave your blinds open when you go to bed so when you open your eyes, you have beautiful Vitamin D to wake up to (it'll also help you feel a little bit more energized!).

+ Drink a lot of water before bed
If you drink a bunch of water an hour or so before you go to sleep, you will most likely have to go to the bathroom right when you wake up. Besides clearing up your skin and relieving headaches, this simple trick will force you to get out of bed.

+ Give yourself something to look forward to
Whether it's a warm shower or a sprinkle donut, give yourself an incentive to want to get up. Setting your alarm to your favorite song and then putting it across the room will also make getting out of bed a little bit easier, and it will help wake you up too!

Do you have any ways to wake up more easily? Please tell me I'm not the only one who struggles with this almost every day!
xoxo
