During the summer, I've gotten to the point where I can eat healthy up until I do something at night with my friends, and then I tend to go a bit crazy. Picture late night ice cream trips, calls for pizza and of course, the occasional fast food run. It's eating after 8 pm that's the worst for you and your digestive system, so I decided to do something about this problem of mine. Frannie came over the other night for an Odd Mom Out marathon (seriously the best show ever), so I decided to stock up on healthy snacks for us to munch on rather than a carton of Ben & Jerry's. I think I can speak for both of us when I say we reeally enjoyed the snacks.
+ Veggies and hummus
I love a good veggie tray, but I always overlook its delicious contents and opt for a cookie or some other fatty food at social events. This time, however, I really enjoyed eating broccoli and peppers, and the hummus is the perfect thing to slightly disguise that raw veggie taste. You would be surprised how addicting the vegetable + hummus combo actually is!
+ Trail mix
For a more salty taste, I added a bowl of trail mix. Rather than a big bag of potato chips or popcorn, the trail mix has a variety of nuts and raisins that give you protein and fill you up faster than chips do. I found a giant box of single serving bags at Costco and then put two in a bowl for us (portion sizes are important things to watch out for, especially with a salty snack!).
+ Fruit salad
To satisfy my sweet tooth, a giant fruit salad was perfect - great for summer too as watermelon and berries are so ripe right now. After eating a few pieces, you instantly feel refreshed and satisfied rather than too full.
+ Chocolate Covered Raisins
And since everyone needs a little bit of chocolate at night (maybe it's just me and Fran?), I tossed a few chocolate covered raisins in a small bowl. Sometimes a little chocolate is good for you in moderation, and usually I'm able to avoid it all day until I have a craving at night. This way, you get some vitamins from the raisins but still that chocolate taste.
Are you guilty of overeating at night with friends too?

Totally love these ideas! Every night when I'm out with friends I tend to grab ice cream or something unhealthy, but these are such great alternatives. Oh, and I'm totally in love with your new header! So cute!

I love chocolate covered raisins! They are a perfect option for having chocolate since they are somewhat healthy, haha. I tend to always grab ice cream and popsicles after dinner, but these ideas are great. I love your new header by the way!
