3 Tips For Getting Better Sleep

I don't know whether it is the fact that tennis is over (aka no physical activity), the endless amount of homework or the cold weather but something has been keeping me from sleeping these past few weeks. This whole topic has really been interesting me, and that's why I chose to research it for a brochure project in Health class. Our project is about mental health disorders and sleep is definitely something that fascinates me! In addition to doing research on it, we have been doing tai chi and sleep meditations (for gym, hellooo nap time!) to learn how to better our sleeping habits, something everyone seems to be needing a bit of assistance on.

After investigating this topic a bit, here are 3 essential tips for getting the most out of your nighttime snooze!

1. Set a Sleep Schedule
According to several sources, waking up and going to sleep at the same time everyday gives your body a routine, which makes it easier to fall asleep and wake up. It may be difficult, but you will feel much more well rested if you stick to this schedule.

2. Create a Bedtime Routine
Figure out what things calm you down and then do them every night before bed. I enjoy sipping a warm beverage or taking a bubble bath and then reading a book while in bed. Also, it is crucial to not use technology 30 minutes before bed, as the light from the screens keep your mind stimulated. As hard as this will be, it will definitely be worth the extra sleep!

3. Eat Right and Exercise
Ok, this is something I really need to work on (ehem see this post as a reference.) These days eating right and exercising can only do you good, and it definitely applies to sleep. Avoid drinking lots of liquids and heavy meals before bed because it will leave your stomach quite uneasy. Besides that, exercise will tire you out and assuage your anxiety, letting your body get to sleep quicker.

I hope these tips help you get more sleep from now on! I know I will definitely be catching up on my zzzz's during this next couple days because I have a 3 day weekend ;)

Any more tips that work for you?
xoxo,
cYa

  1. I have been trying to put away electronics 30 minutes before I go to bed, I definitely found that it helps! Awesome tips. A comfortable and soft pair of PJ's never hurt either!
