How to Stay Healthy During the Holidays

Holiday season is in full swing and that means that staying healthy amidst all of the tempting goodies is probably on your mind! Every year I find it pretty challenging to stay in a healthy mindset after Thanksgiving until the new year, and let's be real, this year is no different. That being said, I've come up with some tips for making sure you don't get too off track with all of the holiday craziness!

+ Sneak in cardio during the day
My new thing for winter break is to wake up and go straight to the gym before I do anything else that day. Nothing feels better than finishing a great workout and having the rest of the day to do something fun. Plus, when you workout right when you wake up, it puts you in a healthy mindset to not ruin your good streak for the rest of the day!

+ Try not to eat after 9 pm
I don't know about you, but I swear that half the food I eat in a day is after 9 at night. Whenever I'm laying around at home at night, I literally feast simply because I'm bored and I have easy access to snacks galore. If you're not at a holiday party and are just relaxing at home, try your best to stop eating before 9 pm because they are most likely unnecessary calories that you're not even really hungry for!

+ Choose water over a sugary beverage
This has been one of my biggest problems this semester.... I've never been a big soda drinker but for some reason this year I've gotten majorly addicted to cherry coke (please tell me I'm not the only one!). Try to avoid sugary drinks because they're packed with empty calories and sugar. Opt for water with lemon instead!

+ Pick your favorite holiday treats to indulge in
Rather than binging on every pretty treat that comes your way, pick and choose your absolute favorites to enjoy. It's so tempting to splurge on every single dessert that comes your way, but if you choose your favorites, you'll enjoy them more and feel better about maintaining a healthy mindset.

Do you have any ways you personally try to stay healthy this time of year?
xoxo

  1. Water with lemon is fabulous. I'd love to try different water and fruit combinations over my break.

  2. I totally agree with your tips; I can eat well all day long but after dinnertime is over & I'm just relaxing on the couch with some netflix, it's SO hard to not snack!
