My Recent Skincare Struggle

Ever since coming to college, I've been struggling with my skin. Throughout my life, I've always been super lucky and never had to use any moisturizer or cleanser - my face rarely had even the slightest pimple. I got a ton of sleep, had a consistent workout schedule, and ate pretty healthy for the most part. I have really sensitive skin and I was nervous to put anything like makeup or lotion on it, so it remained pretty much untouched. After a few weeks into my freshman year, though, I would break out on occasion, and by winter break, my skin was pretty out of whack. Having never had this problem like most people, I had no idea where to start. I invested in some Bobbi Brown tinted moisturizer and concealer to cover it up, but that only helped hide the issue a little. I've gotten so self conscious about it because I've reached a point where I hate not wearing makeup around people - it's embarrassing having a huge breakout on my forehead and chin! Living in a sorority house where a lot of girls have perfect skin doesn't help either :)

Since then, I really haven't found the best skincare routine that works for me. Sure, I try to workout as much as I can (which is pretty hard as a college student as I'm sure many of you can relate to!), drink more water and sleep a sufficient amount of hours every night, but it just hasn't been enough for me. I'm so hesitant to try new skincare products because a) my skin is so sensitive and reacts to everything and b) it's expensive to try out new things that might not even fix the problem! Recently, though, I bit the bullet and bought a set of products that seem like they should do the trick. The system is called Bioclarity Clear Skin and is currently only $15 for a 30 day supply. I thought this would be the perfect way to try out a system without spending a ton of money on, say, a year-long supply. It's said to reduce redness, be soft on the skin, and give you clearer skin in two weeks. Not to mention, the bottles are very #aestheticallypleasing which is, obviously, always a plus. I just started it on Monday night so the jury is still out, but so far it hasn't caused any reaction to my face!

I'm always interested in hearing people's skincare regimens, so I'm excited to share more about mine as the days go by!

I'm curious to know - have you struggled with your skin at any point in your life? What has worked/ is working for you?
xoxo

  1. I totally relate to this! I went through all of high school with barely any acne, and was only wearing concealer every now and then! Now, sophomore year of college, and I've definitely been struggling more because of all the busyness and stress too! I love using Lush cleansers though because you know they're completely natural and can find one that suits and skincare issue! I like the almond one because it calms my redness and clears the breakouts within a few days, but the charcoal one is amazing too!! :)

  2. I struggled with my skin in college since stress is not the best for my skin. I also discovered I am lactose intolerant when I turned 25 and that has helped a lot with my skin. I also recommend talking to your doctor/dermatologist as they can give you a lot of recommendations.Jess at Just Jess

  3. I use the Niacinamide serum from the Ordinary and it's insane! It works even better than the Mario Badescu pink lotion and clears up overnight skin issues immediately. Let me know how bioclarity works!

  4. I have always (middle school to now in college) struggled with acne and then acne scarring. It wasn't a lot of acne but enough to make me self-conscious. I am glad it is not much of an issue as before. What I have learned is that my skin is dry so it produces alot of oil to make up for the dryness. It usually makes a lot and leaves my face oily. And without careful care, it lead to acne. I now use simple, basic products...nothing to harsh that will strip my skin (no acne products) and my skin has been loving it! I have also been using moisturizer more often now. I never get acne anymore. I only have some scarring left.

  5. Ugh, skin can be the worst! At the beginning of freshman year of college, my skin broke out like crazy. I love the Mario Badescu Acne Facial Cleanser and Special Cucumber Lotion (it's a toner) to help clear up my skin. This cleanser does wonders (and I also have sensitive skin so hopefully it'd be ok for you). I like to pair it with Glossier's Priming Moisturizer to keep my skin hydrated, although Mario Badescu's Oil Free SPF Moisturizer is great too. Hope you find a new system that works for you! I did a whole skincare routine post if you want to read more :)
