6 Tips for Staying Inspired When You're Overwhelmed

With so much going on lately from career fairs to exams to joining new clubs, I'll be the first that I'm having a bit of trouble staying inspired. I am definitely a very passionate person, and with so much going on with all of my interests, I often get overwhelmed by what I all have to accomplish in a day. Running from class to meetings to meals at the house while trying to fit in enough time to study and work out (and socialize!) gets to be a lot, and I'm sure I'm not the only one that deals with this! (I can only imagine what all the college juniors and seniors out there are going through right now with internship and job applications!) So, I've done a little research and come up with 6 tips for staying inspired when you're feeling stressed out. I broke them into 3 categories depending on your mood or current situation - I hope you find them as helpful as I have!

PLAN YOUR DAY
+ Make a To-Do List
Whenever I'm feeling frazzled, I whip out a pretty notepad and write down everything I have to get done in a set period of time. I then highlight everything that needs to get done first and prioritize from there. Visually seeing everything you have to do will make you feel 100 times better.

+ 50/10 Rule
Utilize the 50/10 rule where you work for 50 minutes and then take a 10 minute break to refresh and refocus yourself. It's not efficient to sit down and crank out work for hours on end - after taking a little breather at the end of the hour, you'll feel more centered and ready to take on other work.

STAY HEALTHY
+ Hydrate
You probably hear it all the time, but staying hydrated is so, so important for your body. It helps clear your mind, keep you energized and feel happier overall. Keep a full water bottle with you when you're doing work - it'll remind you to get up and take a break when you have to run to the bathroom too!

+ Get in some cardio
Daily exercise boosts your energy level, reduces stress and improves your mood, so squeeze in even a brisk walk around the neighborhood for a quick break. Whether you have time to hit the gym for an hour or just do some exercises to get your heart rate up right in your room, try to do something active every day.

TAKE "ME" TIME
+ Clean your space
Nothing makes me happier than coming home to a clean space, whether that be my desk, a freshly made bed or put away clean laundry. Take a few minutes every morning and night to tidy up so you can enjoy waking up and then coming home to a nice environment after a long day.

+ Indulge in your favorite things
Watch an episode of New Girl or grab a smoothie with a friend to treat yourself at some point during the day. One of the perks of living in a sorority house is always having people around to talk to when I'm feeling nervous about everything I have to accomplish (and they always want to vent to someone about their busy schedules too!).

What about you? What do you do to unwind and re-inspire yourself when you're overwhelmed?
Happy Wednesday!
xoxo

  1. Love these tips! I always love to start by making a to-do list/updating my agenda and going from there!
