A ~Much Needed~ Life Update

It has felt like years since I last posted on this little corner of the Internet... and I have to say, I really miss it. Blogging grounds me in a way that nothing else can, and I've really needed that lately. Life has been insanely crazy ever since second semester started. I went through sorority recruitment, got the flu, joined Delta Gamma, got the flu again, started my new classes.... It's been a whirlwind to say the least. So, I thought it was about time I sat down and updated you on what's been going on in every aspect of my life. (I think this will also help me organize everything mentally which, let's be real, everyone can use once and a while!)

+ Health
The main issue with the past few months has been my health. Since rush in January, I've had Influenza A, Influenza B, Strep Throat, Strep Throat again and finally Pneumonia. To be quite honest, I don't think I've been this sick in my entire life, especially because I've literally been sick since January 10th (aka 3 months!). There were days when I would get out of bed and be so dizzy and sweaty that I would have to sit on the ground in front of the air conditioner and have my roomie bring me a cold wash cloth (Caroline - I actually have no idea what I would do without you!). After 8 trips to the health center, 3 strep tests, 3 mono tests, unlimited amounts of antibiotics and finally an appointment to my doctor at home, I can finally say my health is much more under control. Last Wednesday I had to get a chest x-ray because my doctor was so concerned about my lungs, and it turned out that my white blood cell count was 5,000 too high (which is actually a pretty bad thing). Living in the dorms is like constantly being in a petri dish, so being able to go home for the weekend was so, so nice. After three months, I finally feel better - luckily just in time for spring break!

+ My Great Uncle
Right before my birthday when my mom came down for Mom's Weekend, my mom called me and told me my Great Uncle had passed away. While I guess it wasn't super out of the blue since he was 87 and hadn't been doing well for a few months, I was still completely devastated. When his wife (my Great Aunt) died in May of my junior year of high school, I had a really hard time dealing with it all because I had never lost someone so close to me before. Right after she passed away, my uncle had a lot of health issues and had to be put in a nursing home. That was pretty hard on my family because he had been so healthy before it all happened. Luckily, I had a lot of opportunities to spend time with him, and I was able to see him during this past winter break. I went home to Wisconsin for the funeral last weekend and it's incredible how much spending time with all of your relatives can help deal with it all. I'm so blessed to have such a fun and loving family - it makes going home for the summer just a liiiittle bit easier :)

+ Joining Delta Gamma
Joining a sorority has always been something I wanted to do, and with Indiana being a very Greek school, I was both really excited but also slightly intimidated by what to expect. After getting through rush and finding out I got a bid from Delta Gamma, I was completely over the moon. It had been my favorite all along (thanks to my now Big who I met through working with KJP!). Now that it's been a few months since I've been in it, I've met so many amazing people both in my own chapter and also in other chapters around campus. I have had to miss a lot of stuff because of the flu/strep/pneumonia, but I can honestly say I cannot wait for the future with my new sisters!

+ My Classes
If you read this post, then you would probably know that I decided to switch my major so that I could take classes I truly love. I am so much happier and am in classes that I actually enjoy for the first time since coming to IU. I've been able to meet more of "my people" and it has made it much easier to study knowing that it will actually help me in the future. I also don't have any more 8 ams so that itself is suuuch a blessing!

+ Life in General
Other than these rather crazy events that have been going on from my health to my classes, I can honestly say I've never been happier in my life. People often say you're either a high school or a college person, and I definitely think college is for me. Constantly being surrounded by so many incredibly funny, inspiring and intelligent people always lifts my mood no matter what's happening. Caroline and I often talk about how different things will be when we're not roommates or even when we aren't at school this summer, and it really freaks me out to think about how soon everything is going to change. That being said, I've been trying to be very conscious of enjoying every moment I have while I'm here. I've joined so many clubs I'm passionate about, tried to spend every free minute I can with my friends and enjoyed getting to know my new DG sisters. I never want to neglect my blog that I've worked so hard at, but sometimes I just want to focus on the present that's going on around me. I know these 4 years are going to absolutely fly by (it's almost 1/4 of the way over!), and I don't want to miss a single second. That being said, I can't promise to always have a perfect editorial calendar, but I just want you to know I'm trying my best to keep c&s updated and interesting for you. It's one of my favorite passions after all!

If you've made it this far, give yourself a pat on the back because that was quiiite the novel! As always, thank you so much for your support and sweet words - it means more to me than you know!

I'm so excited to finish up this week so that I can fly out to LA and spend a week with Sammy! Get ready for lots of fun pictures and posts :)
xoxo

  1. I loved this update post. I write a similar post on my blog every Friday called Step Into My Week. You should consider changing the Friday Fours posts into something a little longer. I just love reading about what you've been up to. Also, please make a LA travel guide. I've always wanted to go to LA. If you have the time, you should do a post of all the outfits you wore in LA.
