5 Things to Do the Summer Before College

The other night it officially hit me that I was leaving for college (you can ask Fran if you don't believe me - she was on the receiving end of a minor freak out :). After going to orientation and scheduling my classes, it started to become a lot more real that I would actually be leaving home for good in just a few short months. I really want to make the most of my time before I head off into the next chapter of my life, so I've come up with a few things I want to make sure I do - read about them below!

Explore new-to-me places around my city
I've said it before, but one of my biggest fears about leaving home is missing out on adventuring to places around my city that I've never been to. Ever since my friends and I have gotten our drivers licenses, I feel like we always go to the same restaurants and never try anything new. I'm thinking about making a restaurant bucket list for the summer to ensure I hit up all the spots I've been meaning to for the past 18 years!

+ Become closer to my roomie
If you ever have the chance to meet up with your roommate in real life before your move in, I highly recommend it! Grabbing brunch and going shopping with my roomie Caroline made me even more excited for college and personally it made me feel better that I'll be living with someone I already know I get along with! Even a Facetime call or Snapchatting once and a while are easy ways to become more familiar with each other so it's not super awkward when you're thrown in the same room come August.

+ Create a dorm shopping list
Maybe it's just me, but I have a total vision of what I want my dorm to look like - now I actually have to put it together! Lately I've been reading up on different college packing lists (this one is my favorite!) to compile a list that fits me and my school perfectly. Start keeping track of sales so you get your bedding, beauty products, etc at good prices! I also recommend making an inspiration board with your color scheme and the general vibe you're going for.

+ Go on a fun trip
Going on a fun trip doesn't mean you have to fly across the country to a completely new place - spend a night or two somewhere with your friends or enjoy a staycation closer to your home. Get outside of your comfort zone by traveling to a new place and making great memories with your friends!

+ Relax!!
You hear so many different things about college but one thing is always mentioned: you will barely get any sleep. As someone who can barely survive on less than 6.5 hours every night, I've made it my personal mission to relax as much as I possibly can this summer. Whether it's going to sleep a little earlier than normal or taking time to hoping in my bed to watch a little Netflix, I've been trying to take a little more "me" time since I know next year it will be difficult to do so!

Any things you recommend doing the summer before college?

  1. I love this Caroline! I'm a rising senior so I'll definitely be saving this for next summer!
