4 Fun, Non-Gym Workouts

Since I am done with school and now have a more loose schedule, I've been trying to come up with fun ways to spend my time while still feeling productive (read this post for other ideas!). However, what I forgot to take into consideration was exercise. I always mean to go to the gym, but since I often have to be at work by 10 and don't get home until 5 or 6, I usually am too tired or busy after to actually go and get in a good workout. So, after thinking about this for a while (while eating a cookie and realizing I haven't worked out in a few days, oops), a simple solution popped into my head: why not start exercising in ways that are both fun and effective?! You can do all of these alone or with friends, and they're not your run of the mill 30 minutes on the treadmill.

+ Go for a hike somewhere pretty
There are so many cool places to hike around my house that I've barely visited, and I'm determined to explore them more before I leave for college. Leaving your phone behind and spending an hour or two with friends is so refreshing and much needed after a stressful past year!

+ Do a "walking date" with a friend
Both exercising and talking with your best friend are therapeutic, so put them together and you have the perfect bff date for the afternoon. Why sit around eating when you can get moving (and if it's sunny, get a little tan while doing so)!

+ Go to a trampoline park
I've been trampolining a few times and let me tell you, it is quite the workout. While I'm not someone who can do an olympic-worthy flip 10 feet up in the air, jumping around for 45 minutes will give you such a rush and will leave your legs sore for days. Not to mention, you can live your childhood dream and run around giant trampolines, which is enough of an excuse to go :)

+ Bike across town for lunch
Once it gets warmer outside, I'm definitely going to start utilizing my bike more often. Last summer I biked to the farmers market and Starbucks a few times, but I always get too lazy and end up driving places instead. Enjoy the great weather with your friends or family and go somewhere fun on your bike!

What do you do to mix up your workouts? Any ideas to share?

  1. I need to try a few of these out, I have been awful at working out this year! I really want to try Pure Barre classes this summer though!
