For the past few months, I've seen acai bowls all over the place. I remember when everyone became obsessed with that dark chocolate covered acai treat a while ago, but I'm not a dark chocolate fan so I never gave it a try. In fact, I had no idea what acai even was until a few weeks ago when I read a blog post about it. It wasn't until I read this post, however, that I decided I might give acai a try (I mean a thick smoothie topped with fruit? Sign me up!).
So what is an acai bowl exactly? Basically, it's a really thick smoothie in a bowl that is topped with oatmeal, fruit or peanut butter. It leaves you full and refreshed, not to mention it's sweet and delicious so you satisfy your sweet tooth as well. In the U.S. acai comes in the form of puree at health food stores - I recommend checking Whole Foods.
