4 Yoga Poses to Do Before Bed

Lately, I've been really stressed out about school and the final weeks of junior wrapping up. Getting sick gave me a nice break from school, but now I have double the work to catch up on in addition to quickly approaching final exams. With all of this on my plate, getting to bed at a reasonable hour has been a bit of a challenge, but I've found that creating a nighttime routine really helps get me to sleep earlier. Part of what I've been doing before bed is a little bit of yoga, since my lower neck/ back area has been feeling pretty tight. These poses have surprisingly helped calm me down a lot before catching some zzzz's, and have been easing a bit of the stress in my body.

+ Low Lunge
Like many people, I sit in a chair for the majority of my day, so working on my hip flexors is always a great relief. The low lunge is perfect at working the hip area and feels amazing after a long day.

+ Supine Bound Angle Pose
My chest, shoulders and back hold a lot of tension, so opening up these areas with this pose is super stress relieving. I recommend lying on a pillow to really get a good open stretch.

+ Downward Dog
Another stretch to soothe sitting in a desk all day is downward dog. Your legs, back and hamstrings are stretched out, and you don't have to be an advanced yogini to be able to do this one.

+ Child's Pose
I love finishing out my routine with my all time favorite: child's pose. If you ask me to do a yoga pose off the top of my head, chances are this is the one I would choose because it is so easy and feels absolutely wonderful. It settles your body into a state of relaxation and is the perfect thing to transition into a great night of sleep.

Check out some other awesome poses I've tried recently here!
Let me know if you want to see my entire night routine!
