How To Motivate Yourself to Be Productive

Lately, I've been having a bit of trouble getting myself motivated. Coming home from school, I so look forward to being able to get into comfy clothes and lounge around blogging and watching Netflix. Of course, this lounging tends to last a bit longer than I anticipate, often times resulting in feeling stressed over what I didn't accomplish later in the evening. Below are a few of my tips to motivate yourself to be less stressed and more productive!

Make a to do list
When I have a list of tasks I need to accomplish in front of me, most times I will freak myself out and get to work. (It helps to add one or two things you've already done to get yourself in the productive mindset!)

Think about what's at stake
If it's a test I could fail or a paper that could bring my grade down, I always consider what could result from my lack of productivity. Semester grades and college are usually things that motivate me to get my work done!

Eliminate distractions
As hard as it is, block all of the tempting websites on your computer like Facebook, Twitter, Netflix, etc. Lately I've been putting all electronics (including my computer) in a different room in order to completely get rid of those distractions and focus on what you need to do.

Think about your goals
Junior year is all talk of college, so getting into my top schools is always a way to get me to do my homework. However, smaller goals like getting an A on your next test or getting to sleep by 11 are just as helpful to be more productive.

Get sleep and stay hydrated
If you're tired or dehydrated, you're in a worse mood and chances are you won't want to accomplish what you need to get done. Get to bed a half hour earlier than usual (put your phone in the other room!) and make sure to bring a water bottle with you at all times! It makes a world of difference.

Do you struggle with procrastination and productivity too?
What are your tips? Do share!

  3. These are great tips! If you're doing an assignment that requires you to use your computer, I definitely recommend using the Self Control app (http://selfcontrolapp.com/). It makes surfing through research go a lot quicker when you can't click to a tab with social networks on it.
