MLK Service Day

While we have off today for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, my school strongly suggests finding a service project or two to do. Being a busy high school student, it's often difficult to find the time to give back to your community, no matter how much you mean to. As an underclassman, I did several different service projects like working at a soup kitchen and playing with little kids with Spanish Honor Society. This year, however, I haven't had as much time so I'm really excited to be able to help two different organizations today. After all, MLK is well known for saying that "life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'". That being said, below I have a few different projects/ nice ways to give back you can do if you have off of school too!

Make cards for the elderly
Donate food to your local food pantry
Bake cookies for a nursing home
Leave a generous tip at a restaurant
Visit with sick kids at the hospital
Volunteer at a soup kitchen
Go through your closet and donate clothes to a homeless shelter
Make and send care packages to soldiers
Volunteer at an animal shelter

These are just a few ideas for service, but it doesn't really matter what you do as long as you are helping someone.
Are you doing any service today?
xoxo

  3. Today was the first time I wasn't able to volunteer on MLK Day in over 8 years (I now work and it wasn't an office holiday). Thanks for sharing these great ideas! I hope that people took the opportunity to get out into the community, yesterday.
