How to Make Time for Yourself in College

So far, I'm absolutely loving college. There's always fun stuff to do, it's been amazing being able to meet a ton of new people and I'm able to come back to a bed that's literally comfier than my bed at home (shoutout to the Tempurpedic mattress pad). However, the endless opportunities make it so that time totally flies here - I'll often check the clock and see that it's 1 am and remember I have an 8 am the next day. People don't lie when they say that you'll be the most tired you've ever been in your 4 years in college, and as someone who needs a lot of sleep, I have a feeling it will definitely start to catch up with me very soon. So, I've been coming up with different ways to make time for myself throughout the day to ensure I am calm, well rested and feeling my best. Read about them below!

+ Don't say yes to everything
It's so easy to take every opportunity to watch a movie (or Bachelor in Paradise in my case) in a girl's room down the hall when you should be studying, but this totally messes up your schedule. I made this mistake the first week and then realized how far behind I was the next morning. If you have the time, definitely allow yourself a little fun. But, if you are feeling swamped with things to do, put yourself first and get your work done so you can still get to bed at a reasonable time.

+ Schedule alone time in your dorm
Everyone needs some alone time every day to stay sane, so make sure you and your roomie schedule time to be alone in the room. This has worked out coincidently for my roommate and I because we have classes that start and end at different times every day, but be sure to talk about this idea as soon as you can.

+ Allow yourself at least 30 min of "me" time per day
Sometimes if I'm really running low on energy and can't make myself go to the gym, I'll curl up in bed and go on Pinterest for a few minutes or watch a Youtube video. Whenever I have an extra 30 minutes or so and feel like I'm at a good place with my work, I'll take some time to unwind. I've come to realize how important this is and how much it really benefits me (even if it's only for 15 minutes!).

+ Don't be afraid to stay in some nights
It's really hard to say no, but if you're dying from lack of sleep and know you'll be even more dead the next day, don't be afraid to stay in and watch some Netflix and catch up on sleep. People make going out and having fun a huge part of college, but put yourself first and realize when your body needs a break.

I'm curious to know your ideas about making time for yourself in college - comment below!
xoxo
